I Am Inspired By…
Being inspired reminds us that we can still be awed by the beauty in our world.
As artists and creatives, inspiration is the quiet foundation of our work. From the everyday moments of life that quietly settle into our minds to the more obvious experiences that transform and shift our perspective. Inspiration may yield a layered depth to our work. Those who interact with our work may not always know the source of inspiration, but more times than not, they will know the final work is the result of a process steeped in an exciting line of thought.
My education in interior design and architecture taught me the power of inspiration early on. As students, we did not seek inspiration for inspiration’s sake; surface-level skimming was frowned upon. We were taught how to locate an idea, unpack it through a rigorous analysis, and then how to allow it to influence our work.
There is endless inspiration to be found in song lyrics, literature, movies, photography, nature, people, etc. When given the choice, I will always choose an experience over a photograph of the experience, but images and words are the only ways we can communicate our ideas to others.
