Abstract Moment No. 1

from $45.00

This series of abstracts (Abstract Moments No. 1-5) was inspired by the by the female artists of the early abstract expressionism movement (9th Street Show in NYC, 1951). Specifically, I was inspired by Helen Frankenthaler and her then innovative technique of staining raw or unprimed canvases with watered-down oil paint, then moving to acrylic (for archival reasons).

With my dominate medium being watercolor, I was drawn to experiment with another water-based paint. Raw canvas and acrylic are beautifully compatible in that color soaks into the canvas as opposed to sitting on top of it. I believe what resulted are vibrant compositions in bold and spirited colors.

Also, I love that the texture of the raw canvas is evident still in this high-quality print.
